Introduction to primary Research

Primary Research: Definitions and Overview by Dana Driscoll

There are many different types of research that a student can conduct as field work. Research doesn’t just have to be secondary, but also conducted by the people doing the study. There are multiple ways to do this all with their own  advantages. Observation is measuring the world around you, interviews record one on one questions and answers, and surveys gather a large pool of answers from different people. There is also many ethics to consider, such as voluntary participation, participant confidentiality, and researcher bias. Researching also needs to be well though out and planned. Research followed a timeline that keeps it on track and organizes it for collection. This can differ between the different types of research.

This reading is pretty reliant to us due to how we are required to do our own field work for this assignment. We have begun to prepare to take field work for our research project now that the Annotated bibliography is wrapping up our secondary sources. The information in this article will be important when conducting our survey. One thing that I feel should be thought about a lot is the ethics. I feel like as students we may look this over because we assume we aren’t doing anything unethical, but Its still something to be careful of. Other than that the information on the research timeline is helpful.
